When it comes to remodeling there are two rooms that you can spare no expense and those are the kitchen and bathroom. One of the best things that you can do for a small kitchen remodeling project is to focus on countertops in the sinks – This is where the most value will be derived.

One of the mistakes that people make in a small kitchen remodeling job is that they’ll sometimes the way too much money into cabinets and appliances where their best value would be to focus on the countertops in the sink.

Although you may have a small kitchen that you’re trying to remodel you can make substantial improvements by just finding a very nice double sink, and then adding a very good faucet. One of the best ways to get some good ideas for a nice sink faucet combination would be to visit one of your local plumbing supply showrooms.

Many of the nicer faucets today will pull out so that you have ease of cleaning all of your dishes. You can adjust the spray on them from white to intense spray and it makes it very convenient for someone to clean their dishes quickly.

The benefit in dealing with a small kitchen remodeling project is that it shouldn’t cost much more to add some nice countertops. So you can afford to spend a little bit more on maybe a granite countertop or something that can add some real quality and value to your small kitchen.

Although it may be a small kitchen, you can still make some big improvements. One other area that you can focus on with a small kitchen remodeling project would be to possibly add a little higher quality flooring, and again the fact that you’re dealing with a smaller area will save you substantial money.

By: Tom Turner

Texas offers home buyers many interesting home investment options. People looking towards buying new homes should check if any energy efficiency features are offered in such homes.

Many new home constructions do offer energy efficiency features, which are really beneficial because it helps to cut down on utility bill expenses and buyers should look into home constructions, which specifically state out such features. These kinds of homes offer the right level of insulation, come with appliances that save energy when not in use and much more.

Those who already own a home, but find that their home does not include any energy efficiency features, should necessarily implement energy efficiency measures and gain the benefit of better home energy consumption. Energy efficiency is a concept that is necessary not just to lower utility bills, it is also about trying to save energy offered by energy suppliers and restricting yourself to using only that much energy as is really needed in your home. If you feel you need to implement steps to make your home more energy efficient, you can do the following:

•	Check your home heating and cooling systems to find out, if they working properly. If the condition of your heating or cooling system is not good, they will not use energy efficiently

•	Inspect you home’s walls, ceilings, flooring, baseboards, window and door frames for cracks through which air leaks happen. Such air leaks will let air in, so your heating and cooling systems will have to work longer to heating or cooling your home

•	Weather-strip your home’s doors and windows to prevent outside air from coming in. This cuts down your need to have more heating or cooling done in your home

•	Buy home appliances with the energy star mark on them.

•	Buy products that use solar power, instead of electricity, otherwise your utility bills will only rise

You can also implement the right energy efficiency steps by calling in an energy inspector, to check the way you consume home energy. The energy inspector will bring out measures specific to your home’s condition, to help you make better use of your home’s energy and reduce costs in the form of utility bills.

By: Paul Escobedo

By purchasing energy star appliances consumers are doing their part to live a green lifestyle and preserve the environment. The energy star label is not placed on all appliances. It is a specialized label that was created and developed by the Environment Protection Agency and the United States Department of Energy for specific appliances that are made for home use.

An energy star label is a small label and it can be difficult to find on some appliances. The label itself is white and blue and has a simple design. It consists of a blue star and the words “energy star.” It is important for all concerned consumers to look for the label when purchasing new appliances. If the label cannot be found most sales people are knowledgeable on which appliances meet the energy star specifications.

The environmental energy star specifications are rigorous. They are meant to find the best products that are efficient to use and earth friendly. Each product is tested for its consumption and energy use. For example, with appliances that use water, they use less water than other appliances that are not energy star rated. Every appliance that is awarded an energy star label offers significant energy savings, pollution reduction and economic savings. In fact, the energy star label usually certifies that an appliance will use up to ¾ less energy than regular non-energy star items.

An entire house can easily be outfitted with the best energy efficient appliances. Owners sometimes choose to get new appliances during a remodel or during construction of a new home. Other property owners simply upgrade their existing appliances one by one.

Almost every home appliance can be certified with the energy star label. Some of the most popular types of household items that can be energy star appliances include: clothes washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators and freezers.

There are also some energy star household items that many consumers do not realize exist. These items include: battery chargers, air cleaners, water coolers, water heaters, dehumidifiers and air conditioners. All of these items are great to include in an energy efficient home.

Not every environmentally conscience person owns an energy star certified appliance. One of the largest reasons for this is cost. Energy efficient appliances are not the least expensive appliances that are available on the retail market. In fact, the energy star label can often mean a higher price for a household appliance or other item. The higher initial price is worth it to most. A person’s cost of energy can easily go down with that addition of even one energy efficient appliance in their home. With more than one appliance, the savings in energy costs in usually more than noticeable.

For those of us that can still not afford a large upfront cost for a green appliance, there are in-store sales and used appliances available. Some stores even offer additional discounts on appliances that have been slightly damaged. The damage is most often cosmetic and does not affect the workings of the machine. A cosmetically damaged product is a great way to get an energy star appliance at a lower cost and still be able to benefit from its energy efficiency and savings.

By: Anne Clarke

A friend of yours has just made the transition from renter to homeowner. So what to give as a housewarming gift? Friends that you are close with are the easiest. You want it to be personal, memorable as purchasing the home was.You can wait for the housewarming party or you can take the initiative and start planning you gift right away.

A realtor friend of mine and I came up with a great unique gift idea that she gives to all her clients when they purchase a home from her realty company, a
“Guardian Angel for the Home” Angel painting. She includes a card that states “This Angel is created especially for Your Home … I ask that it protect you and bring you joy, health, and happiness”. I liked the idea so much since I am an Angel collector and Angel artist and Angels are for everyone, I have started giving these as a housewarming, hostess or thank you gift.

You can always do something different, but try and keep the person in mind. Are they a “do it yourselfer”? Home Depot or Lowe’s would be a great place to find a gift or even a gift certificate and is an excellent gift because such centers also sell gardening must haves, grills, small home appliances and tools that every homeowner needs.

Are they a movie buff? Gift certificates for movie rentals or the purchase of their favorite DVD. Music lovers you can do the same thing by adjusting it to music or if in the big city … tickets to a musical? With that new mortgage they may hesitate to purchase frivolous things for themselves.

Put on your thinking cap! Many unique gift ideas can be inexpensive. A photo album for the new pictures of their new home. A basket full of spring bulbs to plant and include the gloves and instructions on how to plant them. Luxury bath items for that long
soak in the new whirlpool bathtub in the master suite. Fireplace tools or a chord of wood are a good item if they have never had a fireplace before. Dinner at their favorite restaurant.

How about a subscription to their favorite magazine or newspaper delivered to their new address?

The point is, you want something that is going to be enjoyed. A gift that is taken out of the box and not a dust collector.

There is something special for every budget that you can give that adds to the delight, joy, and thrill of the new homeowner.

© Sharae Taylor

By: Sharae Taylor

If dryers and washing machines are combined together, they call it washer dryers.

Owing one of these appliances helps you in many ways. If your home is small, such a home appliance can help you save more space in your home. Besides that, you can also save time when you load dirty clothes into just one machine for both washing and drying purposes. You simple need to load your dirty laundry in one machine when your finished in washing and the clothes are dry and clear.

Some people use to say that washer and dryer combo machines are easily broken or fragile. On the contrary, our view is different from this. If you have done the comparison on the washing machines in the market, most of latest washer dryers possess features seen with both washing machine and dryers. Truth is, it costs just the same as buying the two appliances. So why not opt for one then?

Having one of this doesn’t mean that when you wash, you also have to use the dryer of the other way around. If you want to do just one activity, it is possible because the washer dryers maybe combined together but it still works independently.

Washer dryer has an issue that the machine could be a disadvantage to a person. Because the drum of the machine acts for both washing and drying, it may takes more time in drying clothes. Most of us are used to drying our clothes to moist and air-drying them until it is completely dry because it helps to lengthen the life of clothes. Washer-dryers are perfect for this. But washer dryer appliance is not good for people who remove fluffy, dry and hot towels from the dryer.

One more problem in having a washer dryer is when you start washing or drying activities, the door stays locked until the cycle is over. It means that you need to wait for the cycle is over if you would want to add some fabric softener sheets, wait until the wash cycle is over for the door locks could be unlocked. Then you could start the dryer and add fabrics you want to add.

In conclusion, washer-dryer combo appliance is a great thing to save time and space. The inconveniences and problems are considered to be small and certainly should not hinder you to seriously consider them.

By: Zach Smith

The oven is the heart of a kitchen, the engine in which all foods are cooked, transforming inedible substances into culinary masterpieces. Whilst an oven is nothing short of a latter day alchemy device they tend to be rather slow and ponderous, requiring a great deal of patience on the behalf of the baker. Convection ovens work in precisely the same manner as traditional ovens with major improvement, they make use of heated air which is circulated throughout the oven by means of an electric fan.

This seemingly trivial difference with convection ovens actually offers a breakthrough in a major impediment to the time it takes for food to cook in a traditional oven because the constantly moving air in the oven removes the thin filmy layer of air that settles on top of food in a traditional oven. On average, food cooked by means of convection ovens take one third less of the time than with a standard oven. Typically, convection ovens also tend to be smaller in their dimensions, which means that there is less volume for the heated air to disperse through, which translates into faster cooking times.

The ergonomic design of convection ovens means that the ovens can operate at a much lower cost than traditional ovens (thus reducing the running costs) and yet still cook food quicker than traditional ovens. Because the hot air is circulated and distributed evenly throughout, this means that the entire surface area of the food is cooked, allowing for the food to be cooked more thoroughly. This has major hygiene advantages associated with it, especially with the likes of meat dishes, which can be rather awkward to ensure that an even roast has taken place. This is significant in terms of the safety of the food (i.e. to avoid bacteria and food poisoning).

With standard ovens, the placement of the food is essential, because food cooks quickest when it is placed directly at the heat source (this is common sense.) also remember that food will automatically lower the temperature directly surrounding it meaning that As hot air flows around the food, the cool air is re-circulated past the source of heat.

For those who are looking for a device that fits all their cooking needs under one neat umbrella, then a convection microwave is for you! It combines the practical ability of both a standard microwave as well as a convection oven, allowing for food to be cooked thoroughly whilst also done in the same short space of time.

Convection ovens are not the exclusive domain of impatient chefs and bakers everywhere, but can also be utilised in industries where a thermostatic temperature is essential, such as surface finishing, research laboratories where maintaining the optimal temperature of enzymes is essential.

Regardless of the context in which the convection oven is used, you must always ensure that the door is firmly shut, this will best ensure that the optimal airflow is allowed, and remember, the shape of the food being cooked will also have a major effect on the time taken.

By: John Hinkley

No matter what store you buy your home appliance from, you will pay about the same price. And the warranty is the same everywhere. After all, it is a factory warranty, not a store warranty. So, if the price is about the same, why buy from any particular store?

Because there is one store that gives the best customer service, and often, the best price. Home Depot was founded in 1978 and is the worlds largest home improvement specialty retailer. It is the second largest retailer in the United States, second only to Wal-Mart.

Home Depot goes the extra mile not only to get your business, but to help you in all your home improvement projects. Every week they conduct in-store clinics open to everyone. And don’t worry about not understanding or not being able to follow along. The instructors will make sure everyone understands by using easy-to-follow instructions. And if you don’t understand, ask the instructor to go back over the part you didn’t understand. They won’t mind.

Would you like to attend the workshop but have time constraints? No problem. Sit on the couch with your laptop in front of you, or sit in front of the home computer and check out the online workshops. They have thirty minute lessons that cover a wide range of home improvement topics. And they have a workshop archive of home improvements that will help you with almost any home project.

Home Depot is the only home improvement retailer to teach do-it-yourself skills and tool safety to children. If you have a son or daughter 5-12 years old, once a month they will be able to attend one of these workshops. And all these workshops are FREE!

Want more reasons to shop Home Depot? How about Home Depot appliances? You will find all the name brand appliances you know, love and trust. Whether you want Maytag, Westinghouse, Norge, GE, LG, Whirlpool, etc., Home Depot has them all.

As designing a 50’s retro kitchen becomes more popular, so too does the demand for authentic-looking retro appliances. Sure, there’s the real thing – the refurbished stove or converted 50’s refrigerator – but there are also fantastic reproductions of the originals that combine the technology of today with mid-century style and class.

Anyone with the desire to create a truly retro 50’s-style kitchen can purchase 50’s reproduction appliances that have all of the modern state-of-the-art features without compromising one iota of classic style. Refrigerators, ranges, microwaves, and dishwasher panels, along with smaller appliances are all available to the 50’s retro designer at heart.

The retro-styled refrigerators being manufactured today have the same streamline styling of the originals, complete with the choice of top or bottom freezers and the signature silver emblem details. They are large capacity, Energy Star efficient with all the bells and whistles you would want in a high-quality refrigerator. They even come in all the yummy colors that a true 50’s enthusiast craves – flamingo pink, buttercup yellow, Robin’s egg blue, candy red, and mint green, along with the standard white, bisque, black and silver.

The 50’s reproduction ranges also boast state-of-the-art features, such as self-cleaning ovens and high-speed radiant elements. You can purchase them to match the color and style of your retro-styled refrigerator, and they even offer a matching range hood if so desired.

The 50’s retro-style microwave is new to the appliance scene, and it is a beauty like its previously mentioned relatives. Along with all of the great features you would expect, it is also available with color-matched or stainless steel sides. It comes in all of the delicious 50’s retro colors, too!

In order to complete your 50’s retro kitchen, there are several small appliances to add to its countertop appeal. You can find toasters, coffee makers, mixers, blenders, ice cream/yogurt machines, coffee grinders, drink makers and more in many home and/or home appliance stores and online.

As the quality and appeal of these 50’s reproduction appliances are top notch, be prepared to also pay top dollar, especially for the large appliances. But if your budget allows, you will no doubt agree that the investment is well worth the enjoyment you will receive as you cook, bake, and entertain in your very own 50’s retro kitchen.

By: Stacey Aaronson

Homes and businesses can have very different requirements when it comes to choosing appliances. Clearly, if your organization is home-based, your needs are equivalent to that of a residential dwelling. Likewise, if you are running a large manufacturing company your requirements are going to be different. Even so, home and business appliances are basically the same.

As the needs of all homes are pretty much the same, they all have the same basic domestic machines. Businesses, on the other hand can be very different, and have very different requirements. There are five basic, regular residential appliances. These are the washer and dryer, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Other, smaller home appliances can include a microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, blender, mixer, food processor, extra ranges and more.

Businesses rarely have as many appliances as homes do, although, some companies can require the same machines only in more heavy-duty models. For example, in your house, the coffee maker is usually only turned on and run once in the morning. In a fair sized organization, the coffee maker could be used five or ten times a day, or more for a larger business! When shopping for your residence, you would probably buy a regular 12 cup coffee maker, but when shopping for a large company you would probably want to find something more durable and large in proportion to the amount of people that will be using it.

A lot of businesses, including smaller ones have a kitchen in which there is usually a microwave, small fridge and a kettle. These are the same appliances that you would typically find in a house. The larger organizations may have a more full-sized kitchen with a stove and regular fridge. Businesses like manufacturing companies and factories are the ones that have the heavy duty machines. Some of these appliances include very large freezers and refrigerators. Some factories like to provide frozen treats for their employees in the summer because of the lack of air conditioning, and as such, they need a much more heavy-duty freezer than a residential address would typically have. The fridges in these factories would also be much larger in order to house all of the lunches. Some homes with bigger families can have a large fridge, but not usually as large as the factory fridges.

Another difference between home and business appliances is that manufacturers will sometimes make the business appliances have a higher wattage than the appliances meant for homes. The reason for this is because business appliances are used a lot more often and in a larger capacity than appliances in the setting of a house.

So, there is not much difference between home and business appliances. There only needs to be a difference if the organization is large and has a lot of employees. Also, both of these types of machines are bought at the same stores. It is very hard to find a store that only sells business appliances.

By: Amy Nutt
